Hammond, Indiana—The United States Attorney's Office announced:

Carl Ross Agnew, 27, of Lafayette, Indiana, was charged by felony complaint with distribution of child pornography. In September, 2010, a FBI Special Agent using a computer connected to the Internet launched a P2P file sharing program from the Cyber Crime Task Force located in Kansas City, Missouri. The agent subsequently observed that an individual, later identified as Agnew, was sharing images depicting children engaged in sexual activity. According to the complaint, Agnew is one of two coaches for the Robotics team at West Lafayette High School. Agnew was arrested on February 22, 2011 and remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Task Force, and the Kokomo City Police Department. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jill Trumbull-Harris.

            The United States Attorney's Office emphasized that a Complaint is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.  

            The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
